Mr.
Art Stortroen began working for Otter Tail Power in March 1944.
In 1947 he moved to the Otter Tail's high voltage test lab and began
testing gloves. In addition to their own equipment Otter Tail Power
tests rubber protective equipment for cities, contractors, coops and
large industries all over the Midwest. Mr. Stortroen represented Otter
Tail on the ANSI J6 committee which drew up the first in-service test
standard on rubber gloves & sleeves. He represented Otter Tail on
the ASTM F18 committee when his supervisor was unable to attend. In
1978 he was made supervisor of the high voltage test lab. In addition
to running the lab he spoke at REC line superintendent meetings and
company safety meetings through out the United States describing how
rubber glove/sleeves and all protective equipment is tested. Some of
the states where he has spoken are Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota,
