Thumpphone
I Acoustic Detector
The Thumpphone
I is designed as an aid to locating and pinpointing the thump or discharge
at a cable fault caused by capacitive discharge impulse fault locators
(thumpers). Applications include locating and pinpointing a cable fault
that cannot be found and pinpointed easily by personnel walking and
listening along the cable for the thump. Such cases may occur with faults
under city streets, in locations where the ambient noise is great, in
cable buried in plastic pipe, and very deeply buried faults.
The Thumpphone
I consists of two completely mechanical seismic amplifier pickups, connecting
plastic tubing, stethoscope type headset, two metal Y connections, and
a carrying case.
