MI-88
Magnetic Impulse Indicator
![]() |
The MI-88
magnetic impulse indicator is an innovative pocket-sized instrument
for use with any impulse cable fault locator.
The
instrument is designed to be hand-held as the user walks the cable route
listening for the "thump" at the fault. By sensing the magnetic field
surrounding the cable during an electrical impulse, it lights its high
intensity L.E.D., telling the user several things. First, that the impulser
is still running; second, that the user is within a few feet of the
cable route; and third, precisely when the thump occurs so that
the user can be listening carefully at that instant.
The
instrument is housed in a rugged ABS plastic case. The high intensity
L.E.D., which is easily visible in sunlight, is powered by two standard
AA alkaline transistor batteries. Since the indicator automatically
"powers down" when no impulses are being received, no power switch is
needed. In some cases battery life will exceed a year.
