The VON impulse control gap is a totally enclosed, adjustable air filled spark gap for use in impulse fault locating with a VON tester and impulse service capacitors. The gap is placed between the impulse capacitors and a faulted cable. It determines the discharge voltage and forms a 6 nanosecond rise time impulse. The spherical gap electrodes have tungsten arcing tips to prevent burning. The insulating handle allows adjustment of the gap in service to its maximum voltage. At locations above 12,000 feet sea level the maximum voltage of the 60kv gap will be limited to 40kv and the 90kv gap will be limited to 60kv.
